I recently read this story about a German soldier in Afghanistan and his girl friend. He was involved into some close combats which left its marks in his soul. Back home his girlfriend organized a surprise birthday party for him. As he stepped into his flat everybody was shouting “surprise” and “Happy Birthday”, he started weeping and sobbing not because he was so moved. Rather about the superficialty of the situation and how his girlfriend was lacking empathy. He was seeing forward to be alone with her and share his intimacy with her and she just ignored his psychological state completely. As she realized that he suddenly became more exigent in his emotional needs, she just dropped him. He behaved as everything was his fault and went to her parent’s house to see her and beg her not to put him down, ringing the bell when he was crying outside. She just closed the door again and left him outside. A traumatized man was to complicated to deal with and his obvious emotional manifestations were not welcome.

He was not a desparate case but just showed that he was not a machine only. Visibly this woman only had feelings so men would look after her, but rather wouldn’t she use her feelings to look after the man who just desperately needed them in this very moment, in order for an empathic reaction.

Another German soldier said that he got regular cellphone calls from his girlfriend when he explained that just in this moment they were under attack and being shelled by mortars. He also asked her to install an internet phone on her PC so she would spare him of expensive roaming fees while calling him up in Afghanistan. So she asked him: “So, I’m not worth it?” He answered: “No, you are not, and especially not when he are being shelled. Bye!”

So if plenty of those men are autodidactics who never studied technology, why don’t we find more women there as well? Why isn’t technology or mechanics their hobby?

They are just not interested in! And if they say that due to Chauvinist men they’ve lost all courage and gave it up: success and confidence in technological practicing as a hobby at home is a result of trial and error. The fact that you’ve found something makes you confident. And far more, those men who are private inventors constantly have to deal with the handicaps and obstacles imposed by big enterprises who want to let disappear their inventions and buy their patents for peanuts. Just as car engines needing only 2 liters of diesel per 100km and so on. Those inventors see one disappointment after the other, still they never die out. I’ve seen a musician in classical music from Slovenia who developped a servomotor with such a special coil that no magnetic energy is wasted. He never studied electrotechnics. No big Japanese or German company was ever intersted in.

One disappointment after the other, but there are still those inventors and unknown male geniuouses arround. Why aren’t there more women? They are just not intersted. And hardly one will ever be. And those exceptions, you can count them on ten fingers or less.
