War, Remembrance and Men

Every year in November, we pay homage to the noble men of World War 1 who were killed in their millions for reasons which, I am sadly sure, many people no longer remember.

In one day, during one battle, Britain lost 58,000 men: 20,000 men killed and 38,000 men wounded.

The list of those included in Remembrance has expanded somewhat over the years, but it should remain focused on World War 1 and those men who sacrificed their lives in what can only be described as the worst war in imagining; the worst experience that men have ever lived through and died through.

The fact that it was exclusively men who suffered this worst trauma of history, should always be highlighted and examined. The unique and extraordinarily terrible experiences of men who endured a literal Hell on earth, should always be in the front of our minds when we think of Remembrance. These men should be our main consideration.

We should ensure that we remember; and we should ensure our sons remember; and we must all appreciate and never forget; that Remembrance is about the ultimate sacrifice of men and men alone.
